Coach

Basketball Northwest leads the delivery of coach education in the North West Region. To find out when the next course is check here

The first stop on the coaching ladder is the INTRODUCTION TO COACHING BASKETBALL qualification. This course is for those people who want to start the coaching pathway. It has been developed to help you support the delivery of safe, fun inclusive basketball sessions under the supervision of a more experienced coach. The course takes six hours, two hours online learning and a four hour face to face practical session. It is a fun, enjoyable way of learning the basics of the game, including the core skills and ideas on how to deliver safe fun and relevant games.

Once you have completed the INTRODUCTION TO COACHING BASKETBALL and spent some time having fun and gaining experience, you may want to think about undertaking the LEVEL TWO CLUB COACH AWARD. This course takes a bit longer than the Introduction to Coaching Basketball. You will start off with a series of online workshops to prepare you for the first full day practical. Prior to the final full day practical you will have a number of ‘homework tasks’ and the opportunity to practice in your club. On the final face to face session you will be assessed and undertake your coaching exam. Once everything is completed – you are DONE!!

Officiate

Basketball Northwest ALWAYS starts at the very beginning with Officiating. We help you get started with the Basketball England Level One courses, give you some support while you get started and when you are ready, you step up to Level Two.

The Level One Table Official gives and introduction for complete beginners to the game and gives an insight into the basic work of a timer and scorer. Level Two is a six hour course that provides deeper learning of the roles of the timer and scorer.

As a referee you start as a Level One by doing some online learning to prepare you for a short practical session. We get you refereeing with lots of support and when you are ready we move you onto the Level Two programme, which is also partly online and practical.
